What Source Does

Gavitt is a specialized wire and cable manufacturer migrating from Great Plains to Business Central. The immediate scope centres on finance, AR, AP, GL, and selected master data — with manufacturing execution remaining in FileMaker for now. Source connects to the GP environment, performs a deep automated scan across the full source data landscape, and produces structured outputs covering company structure, financial segmentation, chart of accounts mapping, customer and vendor masters, open transactions, payment terms, and dimension design. The BRD covers seven business flows — from Record to Report through Source to Pay — distinguishing what belongs in the immediate BC scope from what belongs to the broader transformation programme.

-Record to Report — GL/COA structure, financial segmentation, accounting periods, currency context, journal entries, bank transactions, fiscal close, budgets, and reporting strategy
-Lead to Order / Service to Cash — customer masters, quoting, order promising, invoicing, deposits, and payment handling
-Source to Pay — vendor masters, purchasing planning, purchase orders, receipts, bills, vendor payments, and sourcing risk
-Data configuration — source landscape mapping, list data migration summary, transaction migration scope, and cutover sequencing
-Gap analysis — 10 explicitly managed gaps between broader programme scope and immediate BC proposal
-Scope governance — governed open-question, assumptions, and deferred-item registers updated as discovery progresses
Out of Scope — Gavitt Engagement

The immediate proposal is a GP-first, finance-first Business Central migration. The following are explicitly deferred or excluded per the BRD:

-Manufacturing execution — BOMs, routings, work orders, shop-floor capture remain in FileMaker
-Cable-design logic — product definition and engineering governance outside ERP boundary
-Planning and MRP — demand planning, production scheduling, and finite capacity deferred
-FileMaker replacement — conditional source only; not inventoried unless BC objects require it
-Traceability infrastructure — reel, remnant, and cut-length tracking deferred to later phase
-MES and machine integration — treated as a distinct workstream, not a hidden assumption
-Advanced reporting architecture — BI tool ownership and data lineage separation deferred
-Business policy decisions — COA restructuring, dimension design, currency handling are Gavitt decisions
